The Department of Labor cites that employment of aides, either home health or personal care is projected to grow by upwards of 70% between 2010 and 2020 – representing an increase of 1.3 million professionals.
The growth in this field is primarily due to a large cohort of baby boomers together reaching the age where care assistance is needed. In addition, the generation preceding the baby boomers is already in this stage.
Also, there has been a major shift in how elderly care is performed.
Care assistance has been moving into the home as much as possible because of high health care costs, and the because people tend to thrive more when they are in a familiar and caring environment.
