The Department of Labor cites that employment of aides, either home health or personal care is projected to grow 36% from 2018 and 2028 – which is a much faster growth rate than other professions.

According to the Paraprofessional Healthcare Institute, approved HHA training in Ohio must consist of a minimum of 75 training hours, which includes 16 hours of clinical training, in addition to 12 hours of continuing education per 12 months.

These requirements are guided by federal government regulations for Medicare-certified agencies that employ HHAs.

Med-Cert Training Center

Weekend and evening HHA classes are available in both Cleveland and Akron. The course consists of both classroom and independent home study.

You will be required to pass written examinations and demonstrate your skills upon completion of the program. Tuition cost is $175, with payment options available to those who need it.

The training includes the following: basic nursing skills, nutrition and fluid intake, vital signs, basic assessment skills, personal hygiene, communication, positioning, emergency procedures and more.

Menorah Park

Menorah Park in Beachwood offers a FREE Nursing Assistant Training Program. This training program will provide you the necessary skills to perform the duties of a Nurse Assistant.

You must have your high school diploma or GED, and be able to pass a drug test and criminal background check to enter the program.

After successfully completing the program, which consists of 13 days of theory and clinical instruction, you will be considered for open positions with Menorah Park. You’ll also be eligible to take the Ohio state test for Nursing Assistants.

Premier Choice Health Services

PCHS provides HHA training to allow you to work in a variety of work settings – either in the home of clients or in care facilities.

Training consists of a 75 hour course, which includes 16 hours of clinical training at local nursing home, or a 60 hour course without clinical experience.

The tuition cost is $200 for training with clinical hours, or $150 without clinical hours.

A-1 Nursing Care of Cleveland

Located in Cleveland Heights and Lakewood, OH, A-1 Nursing Care of Cleveland trains students as home health aides during a 2 week period for 60 to 75 hours.

The training will teach the students both non-medical and medical care needed by patients.

Both a hands-on and a written test must be satisfactorily passed to graduate, in addition to earning 12 credits per year to maintain your employment status. Contact either of the locations below:

Nurse Okeke Homecare Service LLC. & Training Center

Located in Columbus, OH, Nurse Okeke Homecare Service LLC. & Training Center offers training in a blended online and in class training format to become a HHA.

The training program is approved by the Ohio Board of Career School College for Home Health Aide Training.

LKM Home Health Training Services

Located in Pataskala, LKM Home Health Training Services has a 8-hour home health aide competency evaluation course taught by registered nurses.

The training program begins with a two-hour lecture explaining the necessary documentation and communication skills that are needed to be a successful HHA.

Students will also review skill videos which covering 13 core competencies such as infection control, PPE that are needed by Medicare to become a Home Health Aide.

Trainees at LKM must complete a comprehensive hands-on skill check on a live pseudo-patient and they must pass a HHA competency test with a score of at least 80%.
